Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday
The Situation
Weak fronts embedded in a westerly flow affect the country today. A more intense front moves northwards over the South Island tomorrow, reaching the lower North Island in the evening.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Strong wind warnings are in force from Wairarapa to Canterbury High Country Tomorrow.
Northland to Taranaki, also Coromandel and the central high country
Cloudy periods. Isolated showers, turning to rain from Waikato to Taranaki late tomorrow.
Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay
Mainly fine, but isolated showers developing in Bay of Plenty tomorrow
Whanganui to Wellington, also Wairarapa
Cloud increasing with isolated showers from tonight, then a period of rain tomorrow evening.
Buller, Westland and Fiordland
A few showers north of the Glaciers today. Rain with some heavy falls elsewhere, spreading north tomorrow, easing to scattered showers later.
Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury
Mainly fine, but scattered rain during tomorrow afternoon and evening.
Otago and Southland
Scattered showers, possibly heavy with thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Rain early tomorrow then showers, clearing from Otago in the afternoon.
Chatham Islands
Cloudy periods, with the odd shower.

Sunday
North Island: Scattered rain, easing to isolated showers in the morning, but clearing to fine in the east. South Island: Scattered showers turning to rain in the west, with some heavy falls. Scattered showers in the south, and mainly fine elsewhere.
Monday
North Island: Scattered showers in the north and west, mainly fine in the east. South Island: Rain with some heavy falls in the west. Scattered rain in Southland, mainly fine elsewhere but scattered showers developing for a time later.
Tuesday
North Island: Cloudy periods with scattered showers, mainly in the north and west. South Island: Showers in the west also Southland, turning to rain for a time later. Mainly fine elsewhere, but scattered late showers in Otago and South Canterbury.
And at the Chathams
A few showers clearing late Monday. A period of rain on Tuesday. Gale westerlies on Sunday, easing late.
